About BARKS

    Mission Statement

BARKS (Byram Animal Rescue Kindness Squad) is a nonprofit, volunteer-based animal rescue organization serving the community in Sussex County, NJ since 1973. Our mission is to provide shelter, veterinary care and permanent placement of stray, abandoned and displaced cats and dogs. We advocate a no-kill policy and promote alternative methods of reducing animal overpopulation such as affordable adoption and spay/neuter programs.

In just the past year, BARKS placed 350 cats and dogs in homes, as well as providing another 150 cats with low cost spay/neuter. Our continued efforts depend not only on the hard work of our volunteers, but on generous donations and fundraising.

If you'd like to help, consider fostering a cat or dog in your home on a temporary basis, volunteering at adoption days or at the garage sales, or participating in other volunteer activities.

Make a generous donation to BARKS and help save an animal from a life of loneliness and neglect. Or sponsor an animal via our BARKS Buddy program. Support BARKS by making your donation today!
