This is an excellent opportunity for individuals who are considering a career in animal welfare, are interested in animal sheltering, or who want to learn more about companion animals and their behavior.

  • Participate in the daily work of a no-kill animal shelter.
  • Help our staff and other volunteers socialize the cats and clean the cat enclosures.
  • Requires standing, bending, and the ability to lift up to 25 lbs.
  • Experience is not required.
  • Hands-on training will be provided.
  • (7 days) A.M. or P.M. shift, hours flexible at either location as listed above.
  • Must be at least 18 years old (or 16-18 with adult supervision).

  • Participate in the daily work of a no-kill animal shelter.
  • Help our staff and other volunteers socialize the cats and clean the cat enclosures.
  • Requires standing, bending, and the ability to lift up to 25 lbs.
  • Experience is not required.
  • Hands-on training will be provided.
  • 20 hours per week over 7 days, A.M. or P.M. shift.

  • Ensuring compliance with state and local requirements
  • Familiarity with nonprofits, laws regarding animal transport, vaccination/sterilization, adoption/foster agreements, liability and insurance, and animal cruelty cases.

Byram Animal Rescue Kindness Squad (BARKS) is a nonprofit, volunteer-based animal rescue organization serving the community in Sussex County, NJ since 1973.

Our mission is to provide shelter, veterinary care, and permanent placement of stray, abandoned and displaced cats and dogs. We advocate a no-kill policy and promote alternative methods of reducing animal overpopulation, such as affordable adoption and spay/neuter programs.

We are seeking a talented grant writer with experience in grant research, writing and reporting experience and an interest in animal welfare.

Byram Animal Rescue Kindness Squad (BARKS) in Newton, New Jersey is seeking foster moms, dads, and families for dogs and cats waiting for their forever homes.

Our pets are all up to date on vaccines, and all veterinary care is provided by BARKS. You'll need:

  • a fenced-in yard
  • amiable house pets
  • a separate room for your furry foster friend to feel safe
  • A home visit will also be required.
